Thanks guys
I will try the tracking generator idea. I never thought of that. Do you know
if there is any way to test if the output from a midi controller is linear
or not ? - I can't think of a way.
I'm sure its not the patch, or the controller itself that is at fault so...

MIDI CCs to linear. To convert a log response to linear, design the TG
points so that it looks like an exponential curve. Then you assign the MIDI
CC to the TG input, then use the TG as a source in any of your modulation
matrixes.
