My story is that I bought an A6 from Digital Village yesterday. I was so excited to get the thing home so I unpacked it, set it up and off I went Quick glance at the manual ? says I need to auto-tune ? no problem so I did that. I?m not interested in other preset USER sounds, so I deleted them and started of with my own default tone. Funny thing tho? ? just playing that patch from one key to another and the tuning is sooo wrong ? not just the drift that you used to get on the old stuff, but by as much as ? to ? of a semitone! Ok, no great problem, I?ll come back to that I think to myself. So I start trying to make a new sound, but I can?t get away from that blasted tuning problem. So I think ? right! I?m going to solve this ? I do EVERYTHING ? resets, autotune and even turning off the offending voices in GLOBAL. But that doesn?t work because the voices I left as alright start to move out of tune too ? it?s like playing cat and mouse. I WAS hoping to ring DV tomorrow and for them to say ? ?Ahh ? yes it?s a known problem ? press ?A?, ?B? and ?C? and you?ll be fine? ? so imagine my horror when I look on the web and find this chat going on. Not just one person, but loads with the same problem ? and EXACTLY the same problem at that! It?s going back ? and I?m devastated. To get a replacement in 2 x months would be bad enough, but the prospect of them not being able to find a replacement of this fine instrument AT ALL makes me very worried ? particularly since there don?t seem to be any alternatives out there (cue shouty emails giving me a list of excellent alternatives ? well, bring it on! ) I saved the best/worst bit til last. I looked at the serial number and it?s: (21) A10607045700595 The machine just before yours! ? they must have known each other in the factory! ed -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This is a pain, indeed. This reminded me to look up the serial number of mine which works fine. To my surprise it is A10607045700557 which is not far away from the faulty ones. I am also quite sure that mine shipped from Taiwan - it said so on the external card board box. This might or might not give an indication - they might have a big box with chips over there with 30%/70% faulty and good ones, and it is pure coincidence. Both DV and Turnkey have a good reputation for items that have to be returned so I'm hoping I can get a new one - and then that will be that. It may even be worth plugging it in and trying the new machine in the shop before you take it home - it's possible to tell v quickly if the VCOs are ok. I'm hoping that the number of faulty machines is very small - Shaltstern says that his is ok (and his machine is only 38 machines away from ours) Out of interest, which branch of DV did you go to? They have had a few customers with the same issue so if you just let them know that random voices are out of tune they will know what the deal is. I've heard in previous batches the Andromedas were pretty hit and miss - cant remember exactly but i think it was to do with bad chips which I believe is also the case with the ones we got. Sent: Thursday, January 4, 2007 4:48 PM Hey everyone- As the happy 1 year anniversary of my A6 purchase approaches I think it's finally time for me to participate in the mailing list that I take advantage of reading every chance I get. Thanks to everyone for the information and advice your postings have given me. My Andromeda was bought 2nd hand, I believe it was manufactured 3 years ago in China. I haven't had many problems with the unit other than every now and then voice 6 gets a "failed" when I run the auto-tune after letting the unit warm up for 20 minutes or so. Funny thing is that it never sounds out of tune so these days I just keep temp tuning on (background off) and just skip the auto-tune and start playing after the warm up. Sounds great everytime. I did have to do a soft restart a few weeks ago when it freaked out in mix mode - problem fixed. I should add that it was running all 16 voices from an akai mpc at the time so, geez, it deserves a break! On to my dumb question - is it easy to tighten up the knobs on the A6? Most of them wiggle a bit, a few wiggle a lot more but with no problems function-wise. Should I just leave it alone and be happy that I have a fully-functioning Andromeda? Thanks again to everyone. It costs 6.50 USD/ 5 Eur There's a demo on the site. http://www.mk2software.com/banker/forums.html Btw: I don't mean to sound like a commercial, I just really like the program :-) You can split a bank into all it's individiual 128 program sysex files and store them on the PC. I have just made a feature request to the developer about implementing a compiling feature so that it's possible to make one bank out of 1-128 individual program sysex files and he said he had thought about that as well for the next update. I wish to pan each voice more or less randomly in the stereo field. I had hoped I could do this by assigning the 'Voice Random' to mod > panning but this just pans the output around continuously. I want the first voice to be panned wherever the random factor decides and then stay there. Then the next voice will be panned wherever the random takes it and it will also stay. I use to do this in Reaktor synths where it's just called 'Spread' and it makes a very wide stereo image. Random doesn't really matter. Left, right, left, right would be ok but an lfo will not let each voice stay where it's placed. I can assign 'Vox key number' and 'Vox key on vel' to pan and each voice does stay where its placed but it's not really working since I have to use velocity to spread the image. Is it even possible? I hope it is but I'm not expecting anything. I can do with a workaround. Soarer -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
