I really want to avoid shipping it again. The damage to the clock speed control resulted in frequent ghost editing, which was pretty frustrating. The damage to the power supply seems like it didn't affect anything else. I wasn't using any surge protection on the synth when it happened, so maybe that did it? Well. Now I know where to start on bringing my precious back to life, so I feel a bit less hopeless. I'm certainly glad I came across this list. The A6 is a deep synth both figuratively AND literally- you will really want to get access to all the knobs, and unless you mount a keyboard WAY above it, it is generally not a great idea to have anything over it. Any way you could lose either the QS6 and/or the Radium 49? -Marshall ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The bottom tier is fine of course if you get the A frames, maybe you can ask them to create a deeper 1st and 2nd tier and added rear cross bars to lean em on for extra support this is the guy's setup, who put me onto em. I have owned many synths in my days, and each one has its own unique character. I must admit, having grown up with analog boards, I am forever hooked and look forward to buying an A6. They are becoming harder to come by, however. My question is: Is there a quick way to check (before seriously learning about the board) the proper functionality of an A6 within an hour or so? Is there a self-check, or diagnostics mode that will quickly tell me if there are any issues? I'm thinking about buying a used one (or even a new one) and want to be able to quickly diagnose a faulty unit from a good one. Thanks in advance for your answer(s) and looking forward to becoming an A6 owner!!!! RoccoD --------------------------------- Be a better Heartthrob. Other than that you pretty much have to select a default patch, my memory is hazy, but there maybe a key combo to get this up, and then test every voice/knob/function manually by ear and touch the unit will cycle through each voice for each new key press or you get put it in monophonic mode - bottom left, and then manually select each voice in that button's display and test knobs etc ----- Original Message ----- From: Rocco De Lillo To: a6@code404.com Sent: Tuesday, June 12, 2007 9:29 AM Subject: [A6] Greetings! So that may explain the midi overload? However I am unsure that Cubase would receive on all channels at the same time? But it does seem to be a general anomaly from the A6 in relation to my other instruments, which transmit from their Mix/Multi's on whichever single channel is active in the Monitor or Cubase. In the A6 menu - Mix/Prog/MidiCH = 1, 2, and 3 (depending on which of the 3 mix parts are selected) So I would think that this would ensure transmission only on the corresponding sequencer channel? Would anyone know how I can stop all channels of a Mix from transmitting Midi data at the same time no matter which channel is selected on the external sequencer? I hated it because I couldn't just hit the Mix part button and play just that part from the keyboard without going in and disabling the kbd from the previous mix channel and enabling it in next one. I wanted to do stuff with the sequencer with the Andromeda as a stand alone, but I haven't figured out a way to do this without an external sequencer and the A6 set to local off (MIDI). I wish there was a KBD enable 'solo' mode, where they are all enabled but only the selected part will play from the keyboard. Unless I am missing something? And compare that to your other midi devices. It might point out something obvious. This is with all KBD parts Enable = On, and with Midi Thru selected in Cubase. Thanks Ed, I tried your suggestion with the A6 midi connected to the Audiophile, and when all but CH1 was disabled CH1 would play each time any other channel was selected in Cubase. So for example if Ch3 was selected in Cubase you would hear Mix part 1 and 3 play from the A6. Not so good. However, when I made the change and connected the A6 to the Midex it worked fine.. and as mentioned it also worked just fine when Enable = On for all channels too. I’ve no idea why things are so screwy when the A6 is connected to the Audiophile... the Audiophile too has been a great little companion in my setup all along… well, until now of course. Whilst everything looks tip top and stable here and I can at last get on with learning my new A6 there’s still some outstanding questions re the A6 in conjunction with the Audiophile and perhaps Cubase SX3. Not something I would be able to work out my nooby self, but I raise the red flag in any case. Thanks very much everyone for your suggestions and advice, I really appreciate the love, thank you. It gives me a TON of peace of mind to have a backup card. (In addition to PC/data CD backups, of course.) (I can't believe some of the "I heard this about the A6..." things that get posted to this mailing list, the amount of mis-information out there is stunning.) Philippe, it looks like your problem is in figuring out which MIDI OUT device to select in the software you're using, which is an issue that has nothing to do with the A6 - it would be the same no matter what synth you're connecting your PC with. You might want to check on Audigy and/or MIDI-OX forums or FAQs. But it looks like you only have two MIDI OUT possibilities for your Audigy card, so why not just try one after the other if the first one doesn't work? Bad news: Although it autotunes ok, it doesn't hold it's tune on slow, sustained patches like Pre2 #40 Silk Strings? and drifts on chord changes. If I replay the chord it will then go into tune. It is unusable. It's not under warranty. What should I do? Should I contact Alesis first and see if they will do a repair or should I take it to TSI? Any idea what this is going to cost me? In-Reply-To: Message-ID: No, that's not what I mean, It's a feature where you can shut off envelope stages, or keep them from being disabled at minimum settings. here: 5.3 LOCKING ENVELOPE KNOBS: (From Using_A6_Public.txt) On the Envelope Time pages, Soft Pot 8 Enables a feature called Lock, which causes all stages that are Off at that time to remain Off regardless of their pot setting. All active pots will remain active even if you set them to their minimum setting. This of course allows you to use the controls as if it were a typical analog hardware Envelope, which is especially comfortable if you enjoy settings at or approaching zero without worrying if you'll disable a stage as you perform. I'd really like to use this feature, but it seems gone. Anyone use this?
